PREVIEW: VENOM Vehicles!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Feb 03, 2022 at 05:08:36 PM

As we wait on printer proofs and other finishing touches, let's share a preview of something fans have been asking for since day one: VENOM vehicles!

Hydra Specialized Attack Tank

Hydra Specialized Attack Tank

The Hydra made its first battlefield appearance in 2021 at the Second Battle of Thermopylae, where they had devastating effects on TAC Troops. Their unique design allows them to both provide anti-personnel suppression with their mini-guns and anti-vehicle fire with their cannons. Combining this with their ability to rotate their weapons for a full 360 degree range of fire and their dual cannon turrets, it’s easy to see where they get their namesake. In less than an hour, a single Hydra wiped out an entire TAC Tank Battalion and regiment of infantry. When World War III ended and it was revealed that VENOM controlled these vehicles, they ramped up their attacks. Now the main staple of their forces, these two-man weapons can roll into any battlefield and seize control of it with little effort.

Nightstriker Stealth Fighter

Nightstriker Stealth Fighter

The Nightstriker made its first appearance during the middle of World War III, much to the dismay of the Trans-Atlantic Coalition. These small, extremely maneuverable fighters could out-turn, out-climb, and out-dive anything in the air at the time.

The balance of the air war was quickly lost and the Neo-Communist Bloc’s pilots began making night raids on airfields and convoys. Due to this new tactic, members of the Coalition dubbed these crafts as Nightstrikers and feared the skies as long as they remained. Eventually, countermeasures were employed to negate their stunning maneuverability and advanced weapons. Long after the war is over, though, VENOM still uses these specialized jets for surgical strikes and surprise attacks.

Cannons are normally a last resort weapon, but the Nightstriker employs special smart ammo that can semi-guide itself to its target over a much larger distance. The explosive warhead allows a much smaller cartridge to pack the punch of a full-sized laser while keeping the size small enough that a plane can carry tens of thousands of shots, essentially guaranteeing that they will never run out in combat.

Sea Star Undersea Attack Sub

Sea Star Undersea Attack Sub

Based on top secret designs VENOM obtained from China, Sea Stars were created and deployed in the last years of World War III by the Neo-Communist Bloc. These small, one-man craft are powered by six Thruster MAC-2 Turbojets, giving as they hunt and destroy enemy submarines. VENOM adapted them to guard their underwater bases and they have become a terror in the waters. Even Freedom Squadron’s highly maneuverable Devil Ray has a hard time dealing with these fast-moving vehicles, and many ships have been lost to their lightning-fast attacks.

Heads Down
over 2 years ago – Fri, Jan 07, 2022 at 06:21:32 PM

We're in another cycle of crunch here at Freedom Bastion, so apologies again for a gap in updates. Since we've got our heads down, let's share the Edge of that name (and some)!

HEADS DOWN!

REQUIREMENTS: Novice, Shooting d8+

This gunner has enough control over their trajectory that even targets behind cover hug the ground. When laying down Suppressive Fire, the hero ignores up to 2 points of penalties from Cover, Range, Scale, or Speed.

KEEP THOSE HEADS DOWN!

REQUIREMENTS: Seasoned, Heads Down!

Targets who are Distracted or Wounded by the hero’s Suppressive Fire are Vulnerable as well until the end of their next turn.

HORSESHOES AND HAND GRENADES

REQUIREMENTS: Novice, Athletics and Shooting d6+

When an attack with an area effect weapon fails, it doesn’t mean the character somehow failed to throw a grenade or fumbled the trigger on a rocket launcher. It means the attack deviates and strikes somewhere else instead (see Area Effect Attacks in Savage Worlds).

This hero knows close enough is good enough with horseshoes and hand grenades. When this character’s area effect attacks deviate, divide the deviation result in half.

JUDO THROW

REQUIREMENTS: Seasoned, Athletics d8+, Martial Artist

Back throws, hip throws, pick-ups, leg reaps, shoulder throws, and trips round out your arsenal of martial arts techniques. When you successfully Push an opponent (see Savage Worlds), you inflict your usual unarmed damage. You may choose whether the thrown opponent is pushed backwards or thrown forward.

Also, here's some mysterious preview art!
